The south lures everywhere.
In the near situated provincial capital Bolzano the old trading centre appears in a very cheerful light with its arcades, alleys, the colourful fruit market, the beautiful shops and the piazzas.

The Waltherplatz is the very centre of Bolzano. It takes its name from the greatest German poet who lived in the Middle Ages "Walther von der Vogelweide" whose statue stands in the middle of the square. Here, you can relax and enjoy a cappuccino. Not far away from the Waltherplatz there is the cathedral of Bozen. It was built in the Gothic style in the years between 1340-1500 and in close proximity you can see the wonderful frescoes by Giotto in the Dominican cloister.
The fruit market and the arcades are the heart piece of this cheerful town. Directly at the fruit market, opposite the Neptune fountain, is a house from the 18th Century built in Neo-Gothic style. It is here that Herder, Goethe and Kaiser Joseph II spent the night. Stucco-decorated houses from the Rococo and New-Baroque periods line the market place.
The medieval trading centre at the intersection between north and south had a moved history. Today, Bolzano is a modern city and the dynamic centre of the country. It is the meeting point of both cultures. 70 % of the population of Bolzano declare to belong to the Italian speaking language group, and make Bolzano to the "most Italian" of all South Tyrol cities. Since some years, Bolzano has also a University. There are a lot of cultural offers and events: cinemas, theatres, concerts, exhibitions and other events bring movement into the former trading centre. Numerous pubs, restaurants, bars and wine-bars enliven the city centre. Beautiful specialised stores and fashion boutiques are ideal for shopping. Italian's design is decisive in the display windows. The southern ease unequivocally places its accents everywhere
